State Semis

Game 20: 3 November vs. Bishop Carroll at Maize in double overtime (1-2)

Well we finally lost in overtime, and we finally lost to Bishop Carroll—now we were playing a man down.

All goals in this semi-final came off set pieces. Both defenses played extremely well. Carroll has two big-time centerbacks who made attacking the middle of the front third a poor strategy, and we used it far too much.

BWhite once again named Spencer Mogren the BWhite Player of the game. He kept us in the match with solid play after solid play.

And Landon Wirt got us,  yet another, big goal as he tied up the match off a direct kick from Curt with about 9 to go. Things were looking pretty good until Esteban got a second yellow a few minutes later, putting us at a man disadvantage the rest of the way. (Here it is)

I will say this: all 3 headball goals were just incredible individual efforts where the other team was up and competing for the ball too. The game-winner had two of our guys up high competing for that floater. Just some great and difficult goals.

So now we don’t get that second shot at Southwest; we will finish the season playing our good friends at Kapaun to see who goes 0-2 and who goes 1-1 for the weekend. We would love to end this season with a win.

This one had to be an exciting soccer match to watch. Both teams competed so hard. I know even our bench area was up and cheering every touch those last 30 minutes. I think it was Turner who asked the boys to play for our seniors, play for one another. And Hamms who quoted Shaw about find a way to contribute. Everyone did.
