At Rockhurst

Game 13: 10 October at Rockhurst (2-1 2OT)

For the second year in a row, we have downed the Rock—this time at their place in double overtime. And the fact that Landon Wirt went Golden for the 3rd time in one year is just crazy.  You would think that that never would have happened in the history of Aquinas soccer, but it has. Jay Johnston just a few years ago went Golden 3 times as well.  But hey, we have a lot of the season still to go.

BWhite went with what he called the 3-headed monster for BWhite Players of the Game. Farrar and Payne at centerback (wow were they good) and, of course, Landon Wirt who scored both goals.

We thought both goalies played well in the match.  Everything around the goal area was handled pretty well. And that is a very good team to keep out of the net. The kicks and the throw-outs from our keepers stayed sharp all night, as well.

Rockhurst is such a talented team who can possess the ball for 15-20 passes sometimes. Us, we are looking to pick a few off and to get the ball into some dangerous areas quickly.  And we got chances. Carta rang up the post in the first half and Landon had a couple of nice chances in the first half as well.

And all of our deadballs had chances. Joey lifted some perfect balls over that backline once again tonight that brought some solid headers from a couple of different boys.

Rockhurst is as good as any team we have played all season. So, this was a special win, and to have fallen behind on a PK 1-0, and then to have battled back to first get it tied, and then to take it into the second overtime for the win—that showed some character.
